All year ’round, you have the opportunity to climb the peaks of many of the mountains in the area.

The mountains in the Røros region and Nord-Østerdalen are relatively easy to climb, no matter what time of the year it is: enjoy the summer when the ground is covered in moss and ferns, or see the contrast of snow and grass in springtime. Autumn is an explosion of colour, while winter dresses the ground in a pure white shroud. Experience the stillness of the mountains and the panoramic view from the peaks.

Vigelpiken, 1.361 metres above sea level

Vigelpiken is in Feragsfjella, easily visible high above the plains. From the peak you have a clear view to Femundsmarka National Park and Sweden. The round trip amounts to 20 kilometres, but is otherwise an easy walk.

Storskarven, 1.265 metres above sea level

This is a “long” peak, that enters the municipalities of Røros and Holtålen. The trip to the foot of the mountain is relatively easy to traverse, with many fishing waters along the way. It’s about 1 kilometer from the foot of the mountain to the top, with a ascent of 250 meters. The ground is solid and easy to walk. Storskarven has one of the peaks with the best view, and the possibility of spotting Reindeer in summertime.

Forollhogna, 1.332 metres above sea level

This mountain is situated on the border of Forollhogna National Park and with the kingdom of the Reindeer below you, the view from the peak is unparalleled. The way to the top is an easy walk, with great views all the way. The peak is something to behold, as it rises like a pyramid above the landscape.

Sålåkinna, 1.594 metres above sea level

Sålåkinna is situated in Øversjødalen. The experience as you travel here by car is nothing short of breathtaking. We recommend taking the road at Narbuvoll and driving over the mountain. There is a nice foot trail leading away from the parking lot. The climb itself is partially steep, with some rocky patches, but the view at the end is well worth it!

Rødalshøa, 1.436 metres above sea level

You should calculate a full day for Rødalshøa, as it can be quite demanding with a 22 kilometre round-trip. You’ll enjoy beautiful and varied surroundings with several fishing waters along the way. When you reach the tree limit, the track will lead you all the way to the top.

Sølnkletten, 1.827 metres above sea leavel

This is the highest peak of Destination Røros! Two peaks, Sølnkletten and Spisskletten, are side by side, giving you the opportunity to climb both in a day. The trip to the peak(s) as well as the view over the Rondane Massive are worth the full day you’ll spend here.
