In order to be thoroughly prepared for the role as a good host, Destination Røros has developed its own certification.
Educating hosts ensures that guests get a quality experience during their stay.
Taking pride in and disseminating local culture and history
Destination Røros has developed its own certification. All employees in tourism, commerce and government undergo a course on local culture and history, so that guests get a quality expereience during their stay. Also, this way both the local community and employees take pride in their own history.
Knowledge of each other
Furthermore, employees undergo training in getting to know each others buisnesses and learn about the diversity in the region. The point of this is selling each others products and services, extending the number of guest nights in the region per pax, and ensuring that businesses, employees and local community knows what sustainable tourism is. We encourage each other, creating sellers of responsible experience.
The Copper Card – experiencing each other
In addition to the courses, each participant has to fill out a given “Copper Card”. The Copper Card contains 5 guided tours and attractions the participant has to participate in to be a certified host. The Copper Card is an insurance so that we not only know each other, but so that every one also has experienced some of the great activities and attractions our destination offers.
The horseshoe
As a symbol of the completed certification program, each participant is given The Horseshoe Pin. The horse shoe is chosen as a mythical evidence of success, and an important part of our history as a symbol of good communication and a joint volunteer effort. The seams in the horseshoe symbolize the businesses cooperating to be good hosts. Focusing on the host role in our community and businesses secures our future.
500 educated hosts
150 companies have so far partcipated in our certification program Knowledge To Be a Good Host, educating over 500 employees who have enrolled… with more to come.
