The barren landscape and temperature in Røros results in local food products with a rich and pure flavor.
Working with sustainable tourism and focusing on locally produced food and history, Destination Røros has educated local food guides and developed local food safaries presenting the unique flavor of Røros to our visitors.
Leading regions
Rørosmat, in collaboration with the tourism and food industry, have made Røros into one of the leading regions on locally produced food. Working with sustainable tourism and local food in the region, Destination Røros has developed a local food course educating local food guides.
Local food guides
Through the course on local food history and products, Destination Røros has educated 25 local food guides. Increasing awareness and securing a focus on local food ensures quality for the local community and tourists, when visiting restaurants and café’s.
Local food safaries
As a result of the education of local food guides, Destination Røros developed local food safaries. The safaries started up in the summer of 2011 with 3 different local food safari routes, each containing 3 stops at local food serving places and producers. The local food safaries were a great hit and we plan to expand the safaries this summer.
The unique flavor of Røros
The barren landscape of Røros and the temperature in the region, result in all food growing slowly and developing a truly distinctive taste. Mushrooms, berries, herbs and vegetables are harvested directly from the earth resulting in pure flavor. The same distinctive flavor you find in the meat from the animals that have grazed on green pastures and mountain plateaux, as well as the fish that have lived in clear, cold water. This provides our local food products with a rich and pure flavor.
